Weekly Classes


Winter / Spring 2019

Classes are held at Centre Noël Legault, 245 Lakeshore Road, Pointe Claire, on Thursday mornings, 9:30 – 11:30 am, and Thursday afternoons, 1 - 3 pm, unless otherwise noted.

REGISTRATION:  Members can register for classes every Thursday morning from 11:30 to 12:00 and at the Monday evening meetings from 7 to 7:30 pm, or by contacting the Registrar at  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Payment can be made by cash or cheque payable to the guild (LCSG).

No registration is complete until the registrar receives full payment.   Fees will be refunded if a class is cancelled and under certain conditions if a member withdraws from a class (see Refund Policy in General Class Information).

As a courtesy to our teachers and your fellow students, please remember to read through the supply requirements for the class you register for and make sure you come prepared with what you need. 

Registration for new spring classes will begin at the evening meeting on Monday, February 25.


SILK RIBBON BUTTON with Pauline Lebrun

February 28, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

The second class in our embellished button series. As in the previous classes, you will have the option to purchase a button kit in class as well as a stick-on, rare-earth magnet if you would like to make this into a magnet or needle minder. The magnets are $1 and the button kits are $4 (two options are available – three 1.5" buttons plus the device to make the button or four refill buttons if you already have the device from a previous class).

This class is a chance for you to learn a few simple ribbon embroidery stitches that you will use to make a small flower. These flowers will be the appropriate size to be finished as button or magnet but could be added to any other project that you choose.

Your kit will contain sewing thread, fabric, embroidery thread, silk ribbon and a #22 chenille needle. You will have enough supplies to make two buttons.

You will need to bring your basic sewing kit, a 4" or 5" hoop, and small embroidery scissors.

STRAWBERRY QUEEN BUTTON with Pam Benckhuysen

Class three in our embellished button series. You will again have the option to purchase a button kit in class as well as a stick-on, rare-earth magnet if you would like to make this into a magnet or needle minder. The magnets are $1 and the button kits are $4 (two options are available – three 1.5" buttons plus the device to make the button or four refill buttons if you already have the device from a previous class).

Here’s your chance to learn and master the queen stitch with this cute little strawberry. You should have time to finish one button in class. Other options for further embellishing the strawberry will be discussed.

Your kit will contain fabric and embroidery floss. You will have enough supplies to make two buttons.

You will need to bring your basic sewing kit, a 4" or 5" hoop, small embroidery scissors and a #26 tapestry needle.

RINGS, PICOTS & CHAINS with Joanne Touchette

March 21 and 28, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

In this introduction to the technique of needle tatting, you will create lacy accessories by making knots and loops using a single cotton thread and a tatting needle.

You will learn how to make the required stitch, rings, chains, and picots and how to join, turn and tie. You will also learn how to read a diagram and a written pattern. 

Your kit will include instructions, threads, a tatting needle, a crochet hook and earring hooks to make the earrings pictured in the centre. You will just need to bring your scissors.

Note that registration will close on March 7.

EMBELLISHED FABRIC CARDS with Diana Kelly

If you are looking for something to stitch for your donation to the Salon des Artisans, then come to this class. Diana will have a supply of fabrics, threads and beads and will show you how a little embellishment on a piece of printed fabric will make a unique card. You will choose a card from several options available and then stitch something to fit in the opening. We will keep the cards and when you turn in your completed stitching, Eunice will put them together so that they can be sold at our September exhibition and at the Salon des Artisans in November.

MISS DIOR with Pam Benckhuysen

March 28 & April 4, 18 and 25, 1 - 3 p.m.

This course on whitework with colour is using a free design, “Miss Dior,” with the permission of designer Trish Burr. You will be guided through the various aspects of this technique to stitch this lovely flower. The colour range is white with shades of grey as the accent. Stitches include satin, padded satin, seed, split, stem, eyelets, long and short and couched fillings.

Your kit will contain instructions, needles, design transferred on the fabric, DMC floss and white DMC floche. You will need to bring your basic sewing kit, an 8” - 10” hoop or stretcher bars, small embroidery scissors. If you would like to practice your stitches before placing them on the final piece, bring some muslin or quilting cotton and a small hoop. Also bring magnification and lighting if you require it. Students will be expected to do some homework between classes (approx. two hours).

Registration will close on March 21 to allow time for Pam to transfer your design.

BUTTERFLY BUTTON with Marie-Thérèse Beauchamp

April 18 and 25, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

This is the fourth class in our button series. You will have the option to purchase a button kit in class as well as a stick-on, rare-earth magnet if you would like to make this into a magnet or needle minder. The magnets are $1 and the button kits are $4 (two options are available – three 1.5" buttons plus the device to make the button or four refill buttons if you already have the device from a previous class).

Thérèse has designed a lovely butterfly to introduce you to the technique of needle painting. If you have some basic surface embroidery skills, this class will teach you to use split stitch, satin stitch and the long and short stitch (the basic stitch for needle painting). What a wonderful way to celebrate spring!

Fabric and thread for this class will come from our library stash and you will have the choice of four different colour combinations for your butterfly. Your kit will contain instructions, needle, fabric and embroidery floss. You will have enough supplies to make two buttons. You will need to bring your basic sewing kit, a 4” or 5” hoop and small embroidery scissors.

KNOTTED FLOWER BUTTON with Thérèse Leblanc

This is the fifth class in our embellished button series. You will have the option to purchase a button kit in class as well as a stick-on, rare-earth magnet if you would like to make this into a magnet or needle minder. The magnets are $1 and the button kits are $4 (two options are available – three 1.5" buttons plus the device to make the button or four refill buttons if you already have the device from a previous class). 

This class will teach you how to make two popular and versatile stitches - French knots and colonial knots. You will then use these knots to create a flower that can be finished as a button or magnet, but you will surely find ways to use these knots on other embroideries. 

Your kit will contain instructions, needle, fabric and embroidery floss. You will have enough supplies to make two buttons.

You will need to bring your basic sewing kit, a 4" or 5"” hoop and small embroidery scissors.
