Sampler Special Interest Group

The  Sampler Special Interest Group is getting ready for another year of samplers. There’s a saying that “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” We are applying that strategy to the Sampler SIG!

Once again, we will choose our own samplers to work on based on our personal preferences and skill level. Some among us might try our hand at designing a sampler. The format for the meetings is as follows:

  • 9:30 to 10:30 is quiet time for us to work on our samplers
  • 10:30 to 11:00 will be the time to get help, discuss problems and share what we are doing (we always do a show and tell so that we can learn from each other).
  • 11:00 to 11:30 will be the time to include a little history and discuss design for those who want to participate in this activity.

We are currently canvassing the members of last year’s group to see if we will have room to accommodate some new people. If you are an intermediate or advanced stitcher and the idea of working on a sampler and perhaps even designing your own sampler appeals to you, consider joining us. We will be accepting new registrations starting on September 6.

This SIG will meet the first Thursday of the month, October until May. See the Program Schedule for exact dates. The cost is $25 for the season. We are all responsible for getting our own sampler pattern and supplies.

Registration for this group begins on September 6; priority will be given to those who participated in the previous session.

 Mandala Special Interest Group

zenbroiderymandalaThe Mandala Special Interest Group is a new SIG starting this fall. Many of you have seen the mandalas that Dina has been stitching and expressed interest in putting together a group to work on your own mandalas. As with the sampler group, this will be a self-directed group that will decide on the format and structure of the meetings.

We will all be using the same preprinted 10”x10” design, but we will be responsible for choosing our own threads, colours and stitches to fill the design. The group is open to all levels of stitchers from beginner through advanced.

This SIG will meet 9:30 - 11:30 am of the second Thursday of the month, September until May. See the Program Schedule for exact dates. The cost is $25 for the season plus $8 for the kit.

Registration for this group begins on September 6 and you will receive your kit at that time. This will give you a week to start thinking about threads, colours and stitches before the first session. Google “zenbroidery mandala” to see several finished examples of the pattern we will be using. Some additional kits will be made available for purchase starting at the January 8 session for those who feel the urge to do a second mandala.
