September 14

Have you seen or heard guild members using or talking about needlework tools that you didn’t know about? Maybe you even have something in your own sewing bag that you are not quite sure how to use. If so, then this free information session is for you. Bring in your tools and your questions and we’ll do our best to show you what they are used for. Nicole Gélinas has an extensive personal collection of embroidery tools and has offered to facilitate this session, but everyone is invited to participate and share their knowledge. You might discover something you didn’t know existed and would like to add to your own tool box. If that’s the case, perhaps one of the vendors at our exhibition can help you out. No registration necessary, just turn up and participate.

September 21 and 28, October 12 and 19

Have you completed the embroidery but are intimidated about how to tackle the finishing? It could be a scissor case, a needlecase, an ornament, a biscornu, a necessaire etc. but it’s still sitting there in your stitching stash. You never get around to finishing it because you are not quite sure where to start. If this is your situation, then this class is for you. All we need is a little encouragement from each other to figure out how to tackle this. Come and join this self-help group for a little bit of finishing therapy. Note that we will not be discussing framing in these sessions.

October 27, November 2, 9, 23, 30 and December 7

This is a concentrated course where you will learn many techniques and combinations of Hardanger stitches. All stitches for this project have been charted and there will be many hands-on demonstrations throughout the course. Basic Hardanger skills are a pre-requisite and pre-work of klosters and motifs are necessary to complete the beautiful stitches that you will create for your notebook. A short pre-class meeting will be held prior to the first class to discuss the pre-work and threads.

Your kit will consist of beads and all notebook pages. Students will need to bring the following supplies: ¼ yard of 25-count linen or Lugana fabric in white, cream or off-white; #5, #8 and #12 Perle cotton to match; #22, #24 and #26 tapestry needles; 4” - 6” embroidery hoop or 8” x 8” Q-snap; 1 skein of Waterlilies in a soft colour; 1 card each of Elegance and Subtlety silk thread (these are optional); fine embroidery scissors, tweezers, laying tool, 2” binder and 20 page protectors.
