This is a wonderful opportunity to learn new surface embroidery stitches. If you have started your own stitch sampler notebook, here’s another chance to add to it. You will learn how to read a stitch diagram and transfer the information to a real stitch. You will also learn how to find stitch information on the internet, including instructional videos showing how it’s done. The class will cover about 15 different stitches which you will have the opportunity to practice and combine into a small project that could be finished as an ornament, pin cushion, etc.

Your kit will contain threads, doodle cloth, patterns (e.g. heart, bell, ornament) and fabric for your small project. Bring your basic sewing kit, a 4” or 5” hoop and any stitch reference books that you like to use.

This 8” x 10” undersea design is intended to allow students to experiment with mixed-media techniques. This project is also designed to be a relaxing class with each student working at her own pace. You will start by painting the silk background blue. The treasure chest is gauze fabric that is bonded to the background and then embroidered and outlined with a twisted cord. Beads and embroidery stitches will create the undersea plants. There will be a lot of unusual threads, beads and other objects from the teacher’s stash that you can choose from to complete your project --- each one will be unique.

You will need to bring a 12” x 14” embroidery frame or Q-snap, sharp needles (chenille #24, crewel #7 or #8), needle threader, scissors plus a 4” or 6” hoop for the doodle cloth. All other supplies will be provided.
