Correspondence Course 2017

EAC Schwalm Hearts Project Course

January 11 & 25, February 8, March 1

 CCSchwalm

It’s been a while since our guild ran a correspondence course. Formerly called Group Correspondence Courses or GCCs for short, these EAC courses are now known as Project Courses. You can sign up for a project course individually or as part of a group. In the past, we often used the month of January to run such a course and Erma Scrimgeour was one of our biggest supporters of using guild time to offer our members the opportunity to learn a new technique in this way. We had an opening in the guild schedule in January so we knew the time was right for an EAC project course. Those of you who knew Erma know that she loved Schwalm embroidery, so when the Schwalm Hearts course was featured in the Fall 2017 issue of Embroidery Canada we also knew this was the course for us.

Instructions for EAC correspondence courses are meant to be self-explanatory so that you can do the project without a teacher, as long as you meet the course pre-requisites. We will work together as a group and help each other. EAC will assign us a counsellor to help us out if we have questions. We will have three months to complete the project and at the end each student will receive a critique/evaluation of her work from the counsellor. For this project, the skill level is listed as Intermediate (experience in a counted thread technique such as Hardanger is an asset). We hope to have a copy of the course material available at the November evening meeting to show those of you who are not familiar with the type of instructions that come with a correspondence course.

Each student pays a fee of $35 that goes to EAC. There is no additional guild fee for the classroom time and no kit fee as we will use threads from the guild stash and fabric will be purchased with some of the funds raised through the raffles and silent auction sales of Erma’s generous donations to the guild. We expect to have three or four different fabric colour options; you will make your choice when you register for the course.

If you can’t join us for course meetings at the guild, but still want to be part of the group, why not register and be a virtual member of the group?

Deadline for registration is December 14 to allow us enough time to get the necessary information to EAC and receive the course instructions before our start date of January 11. The course will run in the afternoon time slot of
1-3 pm on the dates mentioned above.

Level: Intermediate   Intensity: Medium   Class Size: 15   EAC Fee: $35   Kit Fee: nil   TOTAL FEE: $35
